Not entirely happy with these It must be the amount of stress I am under. Can't really think straight, so I will hopefully be able to develop these next week.

Portfolio
This is the portfolio I will be handing in on disc. I have a landscape and portrait version of this.
PPD nearly complete
Here is the final folder I will be submitting for the PPD as a creative CV. It will house the business card (I've got two designs) The portfolio brochure which is to be printed and a double sided CV.

PPD Folder
This is my template for the PPD folder. I have kept this clean and minimal to keep the continuity of my branding design. It would be a whole lot better to actually get this printed professionally on the same stock as my business card, with a spot varnish on the logo but the non-existent budget means I am tied to print these digitally.

CV postcard
I haven't been able to do the development I wanted to do on this. I need to use the same fonts, and I also wanted to have a list of skills that were succinct and clear to understand. I didn't want to make a big thing of the CV, and this is the most logical way of laying out the information. I know that this still seems formal but I believe it reflects my approach and fits in with the context of the product. It is A6 in scale and is double sided.

Website Updated
During this weekend I decided to update my website. Not only its content but the way it looks and how it is navigated. I felt the previous layout had too much going on in it. It had a lot of different sections, so I simplified it to just have 'work' for my work, and separate sections for news and bio sections.
I decided on using this horizontal scrolling as it looks currently on trend with other agencies such as Music. The menu remains static when scrolling and the content floats beneath the menu.

Mini portfolio brochure
This is a test of my A5 brochure. The content will change as will the type. I just wanted to get a feel as to how the brochure might look. I have kept the same the style to the front cover. It works better as a set in this way.
Folder first draft
I quickly mocked up the folder and I am happy with how it looks. It's understated, which is what I was going for. On the inside I decided to insert my statement as it is appropriate to my pratice.

Net for PPD folder
I quickly digitally sketched this net for my PPD folder. I envisage this being solid black with the a simple logo and contact details on the front and back. These will hopefully be cheap and easy to produce. I felt this would a good edition as a leave behind when I have portfolio reviews and interviews. I will produce this as a solution to my creative CV but it will also house a business card and brochure.
End of year show proposal
I have attached the submission form for my end of year show proposal. I have an idea of what I want to show but scale is going to be an issue. I don't want to have bits and pieces everywhere but I want to show I have a variety of skills.

Identity devlopment
During the last two years, I have been tinkering with my identity, which I feel is finished. I have been using it for a while and now it feels like something I will use to find work and job offers. Its something that has featured in the ppd presentations as well as on invoicing for the screen yorkshire work but here is the development for the identity in one post for the purposes of assessment.I want something I can use for the foreseeable future, so, as ever I was not happy with the first logo I did, and a few people suggested it looked alot more like 'NT' rather than 'AT'. I decided to sketch some more ideas for a logo over the easter period, once I had a little more time to think about it.
These are a few sketches I produced on graph paper. I have got into using graph paper a lot, particularly for logos as it gives a sense of scale and it helps me draw more accurately using the grid as a guide, similar to how I might sketch out letterforms when designing a font. This has become the way I practice, as I feel comfortable with it.
After skecthing the variations out, I stuck with a style I liked and made little amendments too it until I was happy.
First draft and business card
There was way too much going on in this business card, thats for sure.
Less complex but still a little odd. The identity has been finalised though.
New business card image will go here.
Self promo Idea
I had an idea about how I could bring together some of promotional material. I got some samples from Solo Press that caught my eye. All the samples came in this neat little folder that printed and cut from one piece of card. So I propose putting inside the folder some of my promotional material such as an A5 brochure of some of my examples of work, a business card and a postcard size CV. I thought this could be a neat leave behind if I got a portfolio review or interview after college.
It seems relevant to my progress and I feel it could be something that little bit extra that will help me gain possible internships or employment. I could also send these through the post cold. It's another option rather than filling up email inbox's.
final business cards
I have now finished my business cards. I have had some business cards printed already with a spot uv and they came out ok, but since then I have tinkered with the design and I have just put in an order for 500 from another printer.
Its going to cost around £60 which isn't too bad considering a paid £35 for 100 from the other print company.

John Burgess - CV/Portfolio
I was just thinking about my potential CV/ portfolio/ self promotional material and came across a really nice piece by John Burgess. Very simple idea but executed perfectly. Can't imagine these stay crisp white for long though
My personal identity and stationery was designed to be elegantly simple yet considered, stripping out and unnecessary elements and clutter.

Chris Jackson Portfolio Review
I was lucky enough to get a portfolio review with Chris Jackson today. He's very busy but seeing him is well worth the waiting. I showed him basically everything I was working on and my portfolio.
He was complimentary of my portfolio case and loved the fact I had something that was different to everyone else. Often students would show work digitally nowadays, but having the book of images and the samples of work there was effective. He felt I had some really strong pieces of work, particularly the type work for publications such as Arkitekt and Premier League review. He said my typography skills were impressive, but urged me to make sure that the detail is tight.
He gave me some advice on some of the briefs that weren't working as well as some other pieces. He also gave me some help with the briefs I was working on currently. I value his opinions really highly and I want to get my stuff upto scratch. I hope I can find the time to really nail the portfolio side of things in the next two weeks. Chris and Craig are the ones that have given me the best advice all year.
PPD Presentation
I presented my design strategy presentation last week, and I thought I had done well with my selection of appropriate material, and I thought I had explained my strategy effectively. It seems like that didn't come across in the assessment which is obviously disappointing.
Boxhead - Studio visit & portfolio review
I finally agreed a day to head down to the Boxhead studios. I took my portfolio with me with the intention of getting feedback from David. I was really happy with the feedback he gave me, but I wish I had updated my portfolio with some of the work I had been doing recently but I was tentative as some of the stuff is not finished. I took a couple of physical products too to show, which he was much more impressed with.
He also commented on the wide range of stuff I had in there despite my interest in solely typography driven stuff. I was quick to say that I consider the type and layout stuff to be the thing I am most interested in.
From the advice he gave me, he encouraged to try to get the physical pieces in there, and reprint a few things such as the football publication as the type had bled a little.
I am trying to think about the outcomes of my work and how it is presented to take it to the next level. I feel that I am getting better with that but the quality of print is still a little suspect to be considered for industry.
I must keep them updated with my current work when I complete it.
