Alex Atkinson - Portfolio Review

Alex, from the Consult, came in today to give a presentation about the work they do, and also to give the opportunity for a select few an opportunity to have their portfolios reviewed by an industry professional. I jumped at the chance to get my portfolio looked at and I am glad I did. Alex picked out a number of pieces he liked in my work and also things I could improve on. The changes I should think about making were both about the work and the layout for each page. For example, line length was something minor that should be looked at.

Some of the main points raised were

- Don't mix too many typefaces, ideally stick to one
- Panamax leaflet sticks out a little beside products (liking the colour palette though)
- Address any widdows, and reduce the line length
- Show Magnetic Man poster in context or in a stack
- Tweak Glastonbury poster
- Element - rethink the shop frontage
- Cheat the grid (The grid should not distract attention from words and images)

All in all really helpful.

The most surreal moment was when the Principle and some sort of visitor/investor came into the studio and Alex presented my work to them..
