Updating the portfolio, back on the phone and adding to the website

This week I have tried to get stuck into the PPD as much as possible. Aside from the deadline last week and the dissertation stuff I have been back on the phone to agencies trying to tout myself for possible placements and arranging visits.

The agencies I contacted this week were; Boxhead, Vapour, Analogue, and B&W studio. I decided to phone them up to get proper contacts so I could send through samples without the whole introduction. Vapour have already been back to me to say they will be in touch so that does look promising.

I have changed my tact now to see how many agencies I can visit rather than doing 1 or 2 placements. I just think it would be better to see all sorts of practice going on and see how each studio works.

I sent over a portfolio sample PDF which I have stripped out and updated. I figured I didn't want to put every bit of work I was proud of in the sample so I stuck to 5 pieces. I also changed the typefaces because they were not as readable.

and lastly I updated the website, as I don't know who may be looking at it. I put my work for the Panamax brief up there so that is now up to date.

I'll be looking to put stuff I do on there over the summer too.

This is what I sent to Jamie Bugler at Vapour and I got an instant reply.

Hi Jamie,

I just rang up the studios and I was asked to send samples to this
address. I am second year graphic design student from Leeds college of
Art, and I have lived in Leeds all my life. I am looking for
industrial experience to prepare better for my third year. I picked
out Vapour as a target on the back of what I had seen of the work the
agency has done.

I have attached a PDF of my portfolio and I would be grateful to hear
all feedback on it.

My work shows I have all sorts influences, and at this point I'm still
unsure what direction I want to go in, which is why I want to use the
summer to do placements and visits to get a feel for life in the real
studios.
